Agyness Deyn unveils MINI Scooter E Concept in London for Global Premiere.
London, UK. Iconic British brand MINI unveils its exciting MINI Scooter E Concept today in London. This new design study represents the MINI design team’s unparalleled expertise in recognizing the challenges for mobility in major urban areas, and meeting these challenges with the development of stylish, innovative and sustainable future-focused vehicle concepts. The MINI Scooter E Concept comes almost ten years to the day since the new MINI was first shown at the Paris Motor Show.
Distinctive features:
Include the circular central instrument cluster, the iconic speedometer, the visually prominent indicator lamps in the style of the classic Mini and the chrome trims on the bodywork. In addition the colours and materials all serve as identifiers, making the MINI Scooter E Concept recognizably a MINI at first sight.
The design concepts differ in the number of passengers they carry. The first MINI Scooter E Concept is a two-seater variant developed for ‘the fun of driving for two’. It mirrors the color scheme of the current MINI E hatch prototype, 40 of which are currently on trial on UK roads – with body paintwork in matte charcoal, a yellow seat and yellow-painted mirror caps – and emphasizes the particularly intense aspect of zero-emission driving.
The second concept is a single-seater and the sportiest of the new concepts. Almost purist in design, this model nods to the British heritage of the brand. Features include a classic combination of an upholstered seat in dark brown leather, paintwork in British Racing Green and silver mirror caps reminiscent of iconic racing cars.
The third and more design-progressive model – being shown exclusively in London – takes inspiration from the popular culture of the 1960s, a decade synonymous with the classic Mini, drawing on the distinctive graphics of the Mod era in particular. The white body color on this two-seater variant is decorated with numerous applications and stickers, with the left hand mirror cap featuring a MINI logo and the right hand one featuring the red, white and blue cockade of the Royal Air Force. The piece de resistance is a perforated leather seat through which the Union Jack shines.
The Specials:
Smartphone as key, display and central control element. A snap-in adaptor for a Smartphone allows the driver to use their mobile device as a route finder, music player or as a phone via a wireless Bluetooth interface from the MINI ‘cockpit’. As soon as the rider docks his mobile phone and switches it on, the vehicle is ready to go. A navigation app enables drivers to know where other MINI Scooter E Concept drivers are on the map, similar to social networking systems, to encourage interaction between the MINI Scooter E community. Technology currently in development will mean headlights on the scooters automatically open when they meet on the road.
All you need is a power socket.
The MINI Scooter E Concept is driven by a built-in rear wheel electric motor which is powered by a compact lithium-ion battery. The battery can be plugged into any standard AC power outlet. A display screen clearly indicates to the driver the amount of battery life available: the MINI Scooter E Concept can be charged via a retractable lead in the rear of the Scooter.
It is still to be announced if the MINI E Scooter will come to market and if so which market will get the MINI E Scooter. MINI of Murray would love to sell the MINI E Scooter. What a fun and economical way to get around. The E scooter is meant for heavily populated metro ares but, MINI of Murray seems to think that people in Utah are just as green as those living in LA. We think it would be a big hit with People living in Salt Lake City and many of the other cities in Utah like Ogden and Provo.

Friday September 10th 2010 was a day like any ordinary day at the MINI of Murray Dealership in Salt Lake City Utah, until that evening. When he returned to his desk he saw non other than Jim McDowell CEO of MINIUSA walk through the front door. (You know Jim, he’s the one who challenged Porsche to a race.) Juan immediately stood to attention and gave Jim a military style salute. “you know who I am” asked Jim. “Yes, Sir” replied Juan in a military tone. “I was surprised to see the CEO of our MINI Cooper Brand walk through the front door” commented Juan. “Jim’s visit was not scheduled with anyone at the dealership, this was a complete surprise.” Mr. Coles escorted Mr. McDowell around the MINI Cooper dealership facilities, He also showed him were the new dealership was going to be built.
MINI of Murray will be building a new MINI Cooper dealership in the Murray city area in the near future. Mr. McDowell’s visit to MINI of Murray was very brief. Mr. McDowell had flown in to Salt Lake City Utah to attend the Continental Tire Grand Am challenge and to watch the MINI Coopers in the race at the Miller Sports Park. Mr. McDowell was quoted as saying that “The RSR Motorsports team has finished a season to be proud of, and MINI USA is pleased that our vehicles played a key role in their success,” said Jim McDowell, Vice President – MINI USA. “GRAND-AM racing is an intense sport, and the RSR Motorsports team has proven that MINI has a solid place on the track. I look forward to the next racing season and all of the possibility it holds.” We look forward to it as well as we may get another surprise visit from Jim McDowell the CEO of MINIUSA.
This week MINI is debuting the European TV spot “Flow” for the launch of the Countryman . The spot was created by BSUR Amsterdam was directed by Brian Beletic and Sway Studios from LA. The spot features CG enhancement to turn a single MINI Countryman into an entire army of Countrymen that grows bigger with every hugged curve and smaller with every short stop. The various Countryman (not Countrymen mind you) skillfully make their way from town to country, traversing the city streets towards the open road. From there the MINI Countryman reaches a picture-perfect coastline then goes beyond — flying onto a ferry and out into the open sea.
This is hands down one of the best MINI Commercials we’ve ever seen. From the concept to the production to the CG the final result is full of the right energy for the brand and the product. Kudos to all involved.
